Shadows grow in the minds of men.
Though they resist, the efforts come to naught
But for prayer and devotion
To a better truth and more excellent way
Far above the thoughts and troubles
Looming in this fleshly kingdom like giants
Marching ever nearer at dusk.
To be still and know
Things not seen and oft’ misunderstood
Have greater might than flesh can comprehend:
The power of our God and King
Extended to His own
In a realm that must be sought on a higher plane
Than this mortality can achieve unaided.
When flesh no longer rails against the Life
That awaits its innermost existence,
The death-throes of desire, made sweet
In each resurrection to understanding
That transforms perceptions and brings forth another dawn
In which the thoughts belong to the One who guards them
In the safety of His bosom.
Deeds are done, it seems, almost at ease.
It is the hour when unseen battles rage
Yet the enlightened man no longer senses
Mere shadows, but rather valiantly stands
Against the beast that comes to steal, to kill
And to destroy the testimony of his days;
And the Prince of Peace is his great Victor. Hallelujah.
